Welcome Back (Ha!)

After weeks of bouncing from one coast to another, living out of a suitcase, I'm finally back in Chicago to stay. And how do I transition back into life on my home turf? With a bike ride that goes terribly wrong and results in this:

Let's just say that I will never again ride my bike along the lake on a beautiful Sunday afternoon when the entire population of Chicago has decided to do the same thing, particularly when many of the citizens of our fine city feel no need to supervise their young children who treat the bike path is if it were their own driveway and show no awareness of other cyclists.

Of course my ambulance ride and four hours in the ER were probably completely unnecessary, but given that my head ached and I had no idea what a concussion felt like, I wasn't taking any chances. Today, all I'm left with is a beat-up bike, a beat-up shoulder and a strong desire for my life to become a little less eventful, please.

Thank goodness for strawberries

Things have been crazy lately. OK, that's an understatement. But I'm still here, and there are still things to smile about. Like strawberries, for example. Not to mention blueberries and raspberries. And I've been lucky enough to be eating all three regularly for the past few days. If I can still appreciate the little things, I think I'm OK.
