No, that's not my kayak on the roof of the car...

Believe it or not, these are salt and pepper shakers. They were on the table at our New Year's Brunch this year, which means they really have nothing to do with anything I've been doing in the past few weeks. They're cute, though, and you know how I love the visuals. My life nowadays has been crowded full of reading medieval literature, teaching college kids how to pronounce the word for frog in French (it's "grenouille" by the way, and it's pronounced "gren-noo-yah," running in the nearly tropical 45-degree weather, and writing about food. If you're dying to read more of my eloquent prose, check out this, this, and this. Here's to the speedy arrival of spring (spring break especially)!

Fish Heaven

Since certain people I live with refuse to acknowledge the deliciousness that is the fruit of the sea, I tend to gorge myself on fish when I visit my parents. They've always lived on one coast or another (my family tends to grow uneasy when they find themselves more than a hundred miles or so from an ocean) so the seafood is always fresh and plentiful.

Last night, my mom and I made fish stew. It was chock full of clams, scallops, red snapper, and more scallops - almost 2 lbs worth of seafood. I had to restrain myself from jumping into the pot and bathing in the seafoody goodness.

New Adventure

Mmmm, bread....

Goodness me, it has been way too long since my last post. And when I look at it now, I feel silly because of course, the Bears lost. When your team loses, you needly to quickly move on to the next thing and pretend the loss never happened. It's the only respectable thing to do.

Anyway, my next thing is a new project I am lucky to be a part of called "Drive Thru." Yes, I am moving up to bigger and better things in the blogging world, and I am going to be one of several contributors to this Chicago-centric food blog that will be run by Gaper's Block, a Chicago-centric, well, everything blog that I have been reading faithfully pretty much since I started living in the windy city.

Drive Thru is supposed to launch Monday, so keep your eyes peeled for another post here, announcing its arrival. It is a project that I have neither the time nor the energy for, but I am super excited about it nonetheless. Stay tuned!
